We’re really excited for the Cheltenham Paint Festival this year! Running from the 9-10th of September and on the same day as The Cheltenham Cycling Festival, around 70 of the countries top artists will be coming to the town to paint at the first annual Cheltenham Paint Festival! Famous artists from all over the country will be painting at over a dozen locations around the town including the Honeybourne Line and Pittville Park.
Artists such as My Dog Sighs, who has a huge international following, P0g0 who has been a finalist in the world stencil artist of the year competition, Gary Alford designer of the Wu-Tang Clans album covers and the world renowned Gnasher will be painting venues such as The Brewery Quarter, The Hardwicke Campus, The Two Pigs, The Bottle of Sauce, Chapel Arts Gallery and many more! Plus we have a plethora of the county’s best local artists to compliment them.
With funding from the Arts Council England, the Honeybourne Line Urban Art Project and the Big Local we have been able to organise a wonderful free event for all the family. There will even be FREE graffiti workshops for kids on both days! Taking place on the same weekend as the Tour of Britain cycle race and the Heritage Open Day, expect the town to be packed to the rafters with visitors from all over the country.tou
Local artist and organiser Andy ‘Dice’ Davies, who recently painted the shipping container on the High Street containing Virtual Reality headsets from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the huge SMILE on the Honeybourne Line tunnels for a leading business magazine, has worked tirelessly to put on a paint festival he hopes will grow into a huge annual event that will attract the world’s leading artists to the town. He said ‘Due to funding issues and time constraints we have missed out on a couple of our top targets this year as they had to accept other jobs but we are already planning for the next one and hope to have some incredible international artists signed up for an even bigger event next year! Without giving too much away we have already signed up our first artist duo for next year and they’ve painted the UK’s tallest mural!”
