As a council we have a responsibility to ensure that the event is delivered on budget, has maximum economic benefit for the town and limited cost to the tax payer. This simply wouldn’t be possible without our fantastic funding partners, who have been instrumental in helping us from the very beginning. Thank you to:

Cheltenham Business Improvement District (BID) is delighted to be supporting the Cheltenham Festival of Cycling for both the immediate and long-term benefits it will bring. We see the Tour of Britain as a fantastic opportunity to put the town on the map.

There will be an international focus on the town on 9 September and we must make sure that new visitors to the town, and those becoming aware of Cheltenham for the first time through TV coverage and elsewhere, see something so special and it makes them determined to return.

Many of our member businesses are delighted to be supporting the trail of “green bikes” and see the event as a great opportunity to promote themselves. This will just be the start of something special as the Festival grows in future years and Cheltenham becomes known as a town that celebrates cycling and is a special place for cyclists to visit.

Kevan Blackadder, Director of the BID comments “The Festival of Cycling and the Tour of Britain represent an enormous opportunity for our businesses to celebrate all that is great about Cheltenham. Companies across the whole town – not just those on the route – are engaging with the event in a very positive and supportive way.”

In January 2017 Cotswold District Council members gave their full support and financial backing to the bid to bring Stage 7 of The Tour of Britain to the area. Cllr Chris Hancock, CDC Cabinet Member for Enterprise and Partnerships, says: “Unlike many other sports, cycling is accessible to everybody and this stage of the OVO Tour of Britain offers a rare opportunity for local residents and visitors in the Cotswolds area to see top class athletes on their doorstep,  with two sprint stages and one King of the Mountains stage all within Cotswold District. We already know that cycling and exploring the outdoors is a great leisure activity for the whole family and also brings many health benefits. With this in mind, the Council’s Leisure and Communities service will be supporting the wider Cotswolds Tourism Team’s efforts to raise the profile of cycling and sports events in the Cotswolds.”
